Dragon Tiger Gate – Impressions

I finally went to see what is the only local Hong Kong film with any box office ambition this summer.

Compared to the original comic, key parts of the plot have been altered and the emphasis has shifted from Tiger Wong to Dragon Wong.
The “dramatic” scenes came across as being rather corny and the wigs are hilariously silly.

Donnie Yen once again choreographs some amazing fight scenes and he manages to make the highly exaggerated kung fu moves in the comic come to life without being ridiculous – the fights are not played for laughs. Yen also manages to work in some nice leg locks in the process.
Tony Wong, the creator, makes an appearance in the movie – and teaches both Tiger Wong and Turbo Shek they trademark killer attacks!!

I think the movie is worth seeing for the action – otherwise a mediocre effort.
